Skip file as its name contains illegal characters

edited November 2017 in Acrosync for Mac
Hello,

we get a lot of error messages when downloading between Acrosync on MacOS and Ubuntu 16.04, eg:

Skip file '.Macbook-Old/Dropbox/Icon' as its name contains illegal characters

Skip file '.Macbook-Old/Dropbox/2013_JUCS/03_reviews/results-for-authors/01/J.UCS Special Issue "Interaction in Massive Courses" Review Results.eml' as its name contains illegal characters

Skip file '.Macbook-Old/Dropbox/Public/Icon' as its name contains illegal characters

Skip file 'Documents/Microsoft-Benutzerdaten/Excel Script Menu Items/Beispielworkflows für Automator/Blatt mit einer Verzeichnisliste erstellen\scl.workflow/Contents/info.plist' as its name contains illegal characters

Skip file 'Forschung/Backstage/Orchestrierung/Icon' as its name contains illegal characters

Any ideas ?

Stefan

  • The second one contains ", and the fourth one contains \, both of which are deemed as invalid character as Acrosync is a cross-platform sync tool and some platforms (mostly Windows) don't allow them to be used in the path.

Not sure about the rest.  Do they contain any hidden characters that got lost when you copied and pasted here?
  • You are right, I forgot the character "?" and perhaps some others too. But the orginal Rsync has no problem to copy this files between Ubuntu and Macos. This restriction of Acrosync is definitly not a good idea because it's unusable for the some purposes. An expert mode for Acrosync whith the ability to choose freely all rsync options would be the solution.

  • I found out that the "name contains illegal characters" failure only arises when syncing from Ubuntu to Macos.
There were no failures when syncing  exactly the same files the other direction (from Macos to Ubuntu). Very strange behavior.
