Bug: Changes to settings don't get saved

I have three profiles, all with "Start this profile after Windows boot" enabled and with all of the days of the week ticked in the "auto-daily" dialog. If I try to untick the days of the week, or sometimes the "Start this profile..." check box, when I then click "Save" and re-open the dialog the settings aren't saved. Instead the settings revert back to their original values (in this case, all days of the week are ticked).

  • I couldn't reproduce the problem.  The changes are always saved correctly.  The only exception is when you untick all the days of the week, in which case all the days of the week will become ticked.  This is by design, since it doesn't make sense if you set the backup time without selecting a day.
  • Hmm it sounds like there are two things at play here then. One is the "by design" behaviour you mentioned, but I'm also sure I couldn't get the "Start this profile" checkbox to save on some occasions. That was on my work PC which I can't check until Tuesday though sorry - I can't reproduce the problem on my home PC.

As far as the "by design" behaviour goes, can you please explain how to enable continuous sync but to disable the full backup from occurring? It seems to me from the existing user interface that unticking all the checkboxes would be the only way to achieve that?

BTW a small bug - there's a typo in the tool-tip text for the Sync Mode: Upload radio button. Remote is spelled "rmeote" :)
  • The file system monitoring API provided by Windows is not reliable -- so it is better to have a full backup every so often.  I may add a separate checkbox for the 'no full backup' option, but only if there are more users who want it.
  • Hmm I see, in that case I should probably enable the full backup. It might be worth adding a note that points this out in the Acrosync documentation.

Do you know under what circumstances problems with the file monitoring could be expected? I have various apps (including one I wrote myself) that do a lot of file monitoring and I can't recall ever noticing a problem. I'm only using local NTFS drives though so perhaps it only has trouble when used with network drives or file systems other than NTFS?
  • Wow interesting, thanks for the link. Fortunately I'm not changing files at anywhere near as fast a rate as seems to be required to trigger the problem so I'm hoping it will never affect me. Definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on though and I'll enable full backups just in case.

With regards to the "Start this profile..." checkbox not saving. I don't seem to be able to replicate it on my work PC now either so I guess this can be chalked up to me either losing track of the state when I was playing around with it, or me accidentally clicking the "Cancel" button instead of "Save" (note that on Windows the UI guidelines say the "Save" button should appear on the left of the "Cancel" button, so with Acrosync I instinctively gravitate towards the wrong button).
