empty list when selecting a remote folder to sync with

edited September 2014 in Acrosync for iOS
Hi,

I've been running into an issue for a couple of weeks now.
(Acrosync Pro 2.2 for iOS 8.0)
Both on my iPad and my iPhone, for syncing with both my Mac Mini and my iMac, from within my local network as well as from work (outside my local network)
I tried deleting and installing back Acrosync Pro on my iPhone, with no effect.

When creating a new shortcut for rsync, I can fill in the fields computer, username and password.
When I tap to choose the folder, an empty list shows after a while. Hence I cannot choose the folder to sync.

But when I sync via a former created shorcut, everything works like a charm.

Has anybody experienced this, and/or has anybody any idea to fix that. Acrosync Pro really became a must-have tool for me!

  • My guess is that you have something under your home directory that prevents the list from being returned correctly, for example, a broken symlink.

If you know how to find the device log (instructions here), you should be able to see some error messages spewed out by Acrosync.

In any case, if your home directory is not empty while Acrosync gives you an empty list, then this is a bug.
  • hum.

No broken symlink under my home directory, incl hidden links/files

The errors in the log are rather obscure to me.

Deleting the app and installing it again on the iPhone did not change anything
  • That "assertion failed" error message doesn't seem to be related to the empty list problem.  Did you see other log messages around the time you opened the remote browser?

Also, please make sure that the home directory of the user that you used to log in is not empty.  For instance, run the following command on your mac to verify:

    ssh <user>@127.0.0.1 ls

  • No problem for listing the directly through ssh, either locally (127.0.0.1) or from outside.

I tried to quit and launch acrosync again, same effect. The log still mention an assertion failed :

Nothing else after this that concerns acrosync, and the empty list was "showing".
btw, the listing really is empty : I cannot select a "blank" directory from the list.

I don't see where to investigate : I tried again to localize the problem but it's all the same in those configurations :
acrosync pro on iPad or iPhone
trying to sync a directory from my /Users/login but also from a freshly created user account to test
trying to sync on my Mac Mini or my iMac, from inside or outside my local network
but the saved configurations do work properly.

  • I've been having the same issue, and since I needed the app to be working I rolled back to the old version, which works fine.

So   *something* changed in the new version that broke this.
  • I was able to reproduce this bug after upgrading my iPad to iOS 8.  Rebuilt the app with XCode 6 and it started to work again, so it looks like an iOS 8 compatibility issue.

Will submit the new build to App Store tomorrow and expect at least one week review period.  If you can't wait that long, send your device UDID to beta2014@acrosync.com and I'll send you a beta version.
  • Surprisingly Apple approved this update in one day!

You should be able to see the new version 2.3 in the App Store now.

There is also a name change:  'Acrosync Pro' is now called 'Acrosync'; the previous free version has been removed, because it is becoming more and more time consuming to maintain two versions due to Apple's tedious submission procedure.
  • Thanks very much.
    I shall upgrade asap.
