Missing a lot of files

Hi,

I'm using an iPhone with iOS 9.3.1. This is my first time running PhotoBackup.

Everything seems to works fine via SSH on a remote Linux machine. But the app only syncs 47 photo files, although I have thousands of them on my iPhone. I tried to delete the .photobackup file and launch the sync again, no luck. I even got to a point where it would sync only 1 file. Then 47 again, but only 47. I selected "all" in "select photos and videos to backup" settings. I also tried to disable the "skip photos and videos to backup".

Any idea? Your app looks great otherwise ;-)

Thanks.

  • Do you have iCloud Photo Library enabled?  PhotoBackup doesn't backup photos stored in iCloud.
  • Well, I guess that explains this. Thanks!
  • Is there a way to force-fetch these photos? It seems like Plex's camera sync manages to grab the "real" copy of the offloaded photos, then upload that. However Plex's upload is prone to all kinds of strange permission errors and silent failures, so I'd rather use Acrosync.
  • The issue here is that for those photos stored in iCloud, iOS may not have local copies.  If PhotoBackup wants to upload them, they must be first downloaded.

More specifically, Plex's camera backup feature seems to be able to force the phone to fetch the photos out of iCloud for which local copies don't exist. Do you have a way to see what photos exist in iCloud, but are no longer present on the device?

I didn't meant that photos stored in iCloud need to be manually downloaded.  Rather, iOS will automatically retrieve those photos from iCloud once they are needed by an app.  So that may affect upload performance so this is something I wanted to avoid.  Besides, I thought there is really a need to back up photos already stored in iCloud.
  • I think having this behind an option and a warning would be very nice. My use case is an iPhone and a Linux desktop, so I have no easy way to retrieve photos off my phone and onto my desktop/NAS.
  • That makes sense.  I'll add that option in the next release.
