  • Hi

This looks like it has the potential to be exactly what I have been looking for.

I have tried a number of competing products and none seem to be close to the sort of functionality I have had with either dropbox or an rsync cron job.
Is there a way to have the program start when windows starts, automatically start syncing and stay minimised to the tray at the moment?
Is this feature coming in the future?

I just want to say this has SO much potential in my eyes.
My only suggestion would be that the visual language of the UI could very much improve the product.
Strongsync has a good visual image, but the product is not as compelling.

Thanks again for putting this product together.
    David

  • Thank you for your kind words.  We will try our best to meet your expectations!

Auto start on boot has been implemented and should be included in the next update.

As for the UI, the first version was written in wxWidgets, but later switched to Juce thinking it may look better.  Perhaps this is not a wise choice, as quite a few people have complained about it.  I think we will change back to wxWidgets in the near future.
  • Great program, and nearly exactly what I've been looking for.

I do second what drnewbury says above, regarding the program starting at Windows start -- or better yet running as a Service.

It seems that right now you have to manually click the "Start" button on your profiles anytime you wish to initiate a sync, rather than set intervals or even a persistent connection to the server.

You do mention Auto Start on boot in the next update -- can you tell us a little bit more about this functionality, and when the next update will be released?  Will that new functionality only launch the program, or will it launch the program and keep the sync process running?
  • It is a per-profile option, so when Windows boots, Acrosync will automatically run if there is at least one profile with this option on, and then start every profile with this option on.

The update should be released some time this week.  Acrosync has a self-updater built-in, so it will ask you to upgrade when the release is out.
  • My initial syncing with a test file resulted in:
    local/folder/test.file
    remote/folder/test.file

Unfortunately I put a large number of files into the local directory and not I am getting:
    local/folder/subfolder/test.file
    remote/folder\subfolder/
    remote/folder\subfolder\01.file
    remote/folder\subfolder\02.file

The subfolders and files are showing with names including the full path and all stored in the root.
I have tried creating folders with capitals and spaces but they do not have the same issue.
Have you got any idea why this could be happening?
  • This is really a nasty bug.  It is caused by the path conversion from '\' to '/' not being done correctly.  Unfortunately our system tests didn't cover this simple case.

It has been fixed and a new version, 0.91, is now available via these links:

Windows XP (32 bit only, no VSS support)

Thank you for finding this bug.

  • This looks very promising. Im looking for a solution to backup my windows 7 media server data to a linux based NAS (with rsync). I have run some basic tests using smaller directories (200MB of data) and a larger one ( 150GB data). It performed very well. I do have a couple questions/suggestions.
    • Scheduling: Is there an option for this in the near future? I would like to schedule specif profiles to run on certain days, or some weekly. I'm looking into scheduling on the linux side but would prefer to schedule from windows server with Acrosync installed (using Upload sync mode)
    • Installation: Might I suggest allowing the user to decide where to install. I don't like to install in the C:/Users/Joe/Appdata/... directory. I know I'm nit picking here.

Again, this looks like a very nice piece of software that has lots of potential.

    Thanks !!

  • We'll definitely add a scheduling option -- just need to find a way to add extra controls without clogging the interface.

As for the installation directory, we are probably not going to change it.  That directory is the only place where you can install an executable and overwrite it later, for the purpose of self-updating.  However, Acrosync is designed as a portable app, so you can move the executable to any directory you want.
  • I agree with the rest of the comments that Acrosync is looking very promising, however for me it is missing a few things:

    1) Is there a way to sync multiple root directories at once (I see mention of the word profiles, but don't see it in the GUI)?

    2) While the program sync nicely from Source to Target, there is no option to delete files or folders on the Target side that no longer exist on the source (the target dir becomes very poluted with old files/directories)

If there are ways around these issues, please let me know and keep up the good work.

  • When you run Acrosync for the first time, only one empty profile will be shown.  To add a new profile or to delete an existing profile, click the Acrosync tray icon to bring up the menu.

For 2), I think the checkbox 'Propagate Deletions' is what you are looking for.  This may not be the best description, but it is the shortest.
  • Just wanted to report some unwanted behavior with acrosync 0.91 on windows 8.1 Update 1. When my device resumes from sleep acrosync is left in a stopped state, it does not resume syncing unless i manually hit start, this is a big problem for my use-case (backups). Thanks for the great work so far!
  • Thanks for reporting the bug.  We'll fix it while rewriting the GUI part.  Should be included in the next update.
  • A new version, 0.92, is now available.  The most significant change is the GUI.  Since the non-native look and feel was probably the most complained about feature, we decided to rewrite the entire GUI in wxwidgets.  There are also many other improvements/fixes, such as include/exclude pattern matching and hourly snapshot creation.

Starting from this version, we will also change the pricing model.  Acrosync will be free to trial for 15 days.  After that, you can purchase a personal ($14.99) or commercial ($49.99) license, depending on how you will be using it.  During the beta testing period, you can enter the promotion code 'beta' for a discount ($9.99 and $29.99 respectively).

Here are the links.  Hope everyone can send in feedback even if you don't encounter any issue (just to let us know that it works).

  • The latest version 0.93 is now available via the 'Download Beta' button on the Windows page.  This is mostly a bug-fixing version.

    Changes:

        * Fixed several bugs in include/exclude pattern matching
        * If remote dir starts with '/', the remote dir browser will list the root directory first
        * Handle junctions properly and treat them as symlinks
        * Other minor fixes and improvements

Version 0.94 is now available via the front page:

The main change in this version is the addition of a backup scheduler:  the Continuous Upload mode has been renamed Backup which by default should behave the same.  However, now you can control whether to enable the file monitor or now, or the frequency of backups (hourly or daily).

    Bug fixes in this version:
    • an exclude pattern of '/a/b' may exclude everything under '/a'
    • VSS for local paths like 'c:/' or 'd:/' is rejected due to incorrect minimum path length
    • incorrect handshaking implementation caused connections to Synology NAS to timeout when 'Over SSH' is not selected
    • added a per-profile key SuppressAutoSyncNotification to disable tray icon balloon notifications resulting from auto-syncs (when its value is '1')
